Flange Standards

ASTM sets the standard of flanges (Flanges) of many standards and grades to choose to be suitable for the job type, fluid conditions, environmental conditions, temperature and operating pressure. As for determining the size, dimension, and class of the flange, it was in the past under the supervision of ANSI, but is currently under the responsibility of ASME.

Since flanges and Forged Steel Fittings have the same forming method of forming (forging), most of the materials are standardized under the same ASTM number, such as ASTM A105 and ASTM A182.

Standard material flanges carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel.

Carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel Produced according to ASTM standards that are widely used in the industry are as follows:

  • ASTM

A 105 Carbon steel forging for piping application.
A 181 Carbon Steel Forging for General Purpose Piping.
A 182 Forged or rolled alloy-steel pipe flanges, forged fittings, valves and parts for high-temperature service.

Flanges under the JIS standards are both forged and made from steel plates. with abbreviations telling the following details:

SOP Slip-on welding plate flange
SOH Slip-on welding hub flange
WN Welding neck flange
BL Blind flange

JIS standards related to the production methods, materials, dimensions and dimensions of carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel flanges are as follows:

  • JIS

B 2220 Steel Welding Pipe Flanges.
B 2238 General Rules for Steel Pipe Flanges.
B 2210 revoked in 1997 and the JIS B 2238 and JIS B 2239 standards were used instead.
